Police are trying to identify the body of a tattooed man found hanged in bushes close to Wigan town centre.
A cyclist told today of the moment he made the grim discovery.
Lee Marsden, a 34-year-old electrician from Kitt Green Road, was lifting his bike over a towpath stile near Poolstock canal bridge on Saturday at 8.15am, when he spotted the red-headed man in some undergrowth. He told children fishing nearby to keep away and rang 999.

Mr Marsden said: "It was very sad and disturbing. I am no expert on these matters but there was nothing that could be done for the poor man."

A police spokesman said: "At present we do not know who he is and would be grateful for anyone recognising this description to get in touch. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."

Anyone with information should ring police on (0161) 872 5050.
