A woman killed in an horrific car crash has been named - Cerri Sharples was pronounced dead on the way to hospital, minutes after she was cut from the wreckage of her Toyota MR2 by firefighters.
The 38-year-old from Church Drive, Orrell, had been at the wheel when the car spun out of control on Scot Lane, Beech Hill, and crashed side-on into the front of a Peugeot 206 coming in the opposite direction.

The driver's door of the Toyota took the full force of the impact and Ms Sharples suffered serious injuries.

Her passenger in the car, Stephen Hitchen, also had to be freed from the vehicle but escaped with a minor head injury and cuts after the accident on Monday night.

Two 27-year-old women in the silver Peugeot suffered only superficial injuries.
The road was blocked for several hours while the wreckage was cleared and traffic officers examined the scene.

Witnesses say Ms Sharples' red car was being driven "erratically" as it headed from Marsh Green towards Beech Hill at around 10.30pm.
The Peugeot was on the correct side of the road and coming from Beech Hill.

Police traced relatives of Ms Sharples and her body was identified yesterday at Wigan Infirmary. The coroner has been informed.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to call 0161 856 7201.
