A fat map of the United Kingdom has revealed that 8% of people in Wigan are obese.
Blackpool and Knowlsey have the highest figures in the North West with 9.9%.
Following closely behind are Halton and St Helens with an obesity level of 9.7%.

The North West area with the smallest proportion of overweight people is in Trafford where 6.4% of patients are obese.
The map, created by Dr Foster Research, suggests the problem may be getting worse when compared with similar research published two years ago.

Alex Young, senior project manager at Dr Foster Research, said: "We are seeing parts of the outlying regions being affected rather than just urban areas.

"Urban areas might be dealing with the problem more effectively but in the outlying regions it seems to be getting worse.
"If you look at Liverpool, Sheffield and Bristol, the levels are low. In the outlying areas, health services are maybe less available. In a city, the services are better, such as local access to GPs."

Obesity rates elsewhere in the region were: Salford PCT 8.6%, Wirral PCT 8.4%, Tameside and Glossop PCT 8.2%, East Lancs PCT 8.1%, North Lancs PCT 8%, Bolton PCT 7.9%, Cumbria PCT 7.9%, Blackburn With Darwen PCT 7.8%, Heywood Middleton and Rochdale PCT 7.7%, Bury PCT 7.6%, Central Lancs PCT 7.6%, Warrington PCT 7.5%, Stockport PCT 7.4%, Liverpool PCT 7.3%, Oldham PCT 7.3%, Sefton PCT 7.3%, Manchester PCT 7%, Western Cheshire PCT 7%, Central and Eastern Cheshire PCT 6.6%).

First they came for the smokers.......so called, second hand smoke.
Next, alcohol was targetted......binge drinking.
Now it's the turn of the obese.

Who will be the next group to be attacked?

following on from Merlin90's comments - if you're an overweight smoker who likes a night out each weekend and drives a car to work every weekday, what hope is there?

In a recent study by the anti-busybody and jobsworths society, it was found that 79% of the people who were asked their opinion of the health experts denigration of obesity, found that they were talking a load of twaddle. The remaining 21% thought that they should concentrate more on the serious sides of life such as banning people from playing sports like football and cricket, after all, they could injure theirself.
