Action is being demanded to clean up a former pub site which has been turned into a dumping ground.
The area on Wigan Road, Bryn, where the Britannia Pub once stood has become a grot spot since it was pulled down three years ago.
Planning permission was granted last September for housing but no work has begun. However, rubbish has been dumped on the site.

Now a local councillor is demanding the council step in and clean it up.
Coun Gary Wilkes said: "It looks like a battlefield and it's been like this for the last three years.
"I have had a lot of complaints from the residents. It's full of tipped building rubble.

"The council has the authority to clean this up and it needs to be done because this site is letting Bryn down. It's been a mess for too long now."
Wigan Council said it was in negotiations with the site developers and that the land would be cleaned when development work started.
The plan is to build 20 apartments on the site with access off Wigan Road.

Manley Developments, which took over the land from another developer, says that work to fence off the land and clean it up is likely to take place in the next few weeks, while building work will start in the next two years.

Neil Manley, from Manley Developments, said: "We couldn't get near the site because British Rail have been doing some work there.
"They've just finished and over the next few weeks we will be fencing it off and cleaning up the land."

I would ask Cllr.Wilks, why not use the site as a much needed daytime carpark instead of people who have to use the train to goto work in Liverpool/Wigan/Manchester etc having to park their cars on the bridge on Wigan Road. This is just plain common sense,it would undoutedly make the Wigan Road area outside Bryn Station much safer, and since as he says ,Wigan Council or the intended developers could have a nice little much needed earner.

Councillor Wilkes has no authority to make a car park out of the site. Simply because it doesn't belong to him, or the Council. It was bought by a construction company for redevelopment purposes, and their intentions are not to provide a public car park.
If you, or the council, are so keen to have a car park there, I would suggest you approach the owner and make a substantial offer.

Jemmy you are right, the council would not be able to afford to buy the land.
Wadder we do need a park and ride scheme for bryn and we have tried to get create a scheme but we got knocked back from the Council,WMBC do own land very close by but will not support our and your idea.
