A ten-year-old girl has been praised for her quick thinking after a fire broke out in a bedroom.
The girl ran to a neighbour's house in Lynton Road, Tyldesley, at 5am on Friday when a mattress in a bedroom upstairs had gone on fire.

The neighbour alerted Atherton fire station, but the female occupier of the house, believed to be in her 20s, had put the fire out with water.
The woman was taken to hospital after suffering minor burns and smoke inhalation.
The fire was caused by a set of tea-light candles.

A spokesman for Atherton fire service said: "The young girl did really well. If it wasn't for her quick thinking to call the fire brigade it could have been a lot worse. There weren't any smoke alarms so they were very lucky."
