Could you help to turn a young life around or share your skills and life experiences in a bid to keep a child on the right path?
Then maybe you could be a mentor. Wigan Council's Early Intervention, Prevention and Youth Offending team is looking for a few good men and women to act as role models for youngsters it works with.

The team works with children and young people aged from eight to 18 who are at risk of offending or are already in the criminal justice system.

Project co-ordinator Simon Ogunlana said: "Mentors spend about one to two hours a week with the young person on activities they arrange together. During these sessions the mentor will try to address issues that may be causing the young person problems.

"The mentor will also share their experiences with a co-ordinator at regularly monthly support sessions." The volunteer mentor can receive nationally recognised qualifications.

Simon said: "The role can be a challenge, but it can be fun and very rewarding."

Training is due to start on Saturday, July 5. Call Simon Ogunlana on 01942 487100.
