A major engineering group in Wigan has announced further redundancies, cutting more than 85 per cent of its staff.
The Hampson Group, which has several sites in the borough, has informed 90 members of staff at Ec ipse Aviation, which manufactures aircraft parts, in Marus Bridge, that they will lose their jobs.

The job cuts will leave just 14 members of staff to manufacture aircraft parts to sell overseas. It is believed no more aircraft parts will be ordered until January.
Eclipse Aviation is based at the same site as BHW Components, which has also cut 50 jobs.

There are also fears there may be further redundancies at another engineering company, Erlson, in Skelmersdale, which is also part of the Hampson Group.

An engineer who works for the group said: "When we got Eclipse a few years ago they were making parts for private jets in America and that was going to be the jewel in the crown, but obviously not."

It is believed the 90 staff were told they could finish immediately. The Hampson Group was unavailable for comment.
