Lightning blasted a chimney apart and set a TV set top box alight.
The current travelled down the aerial and into the back of the TV set top box, which burst into flames during yesterday's torrential downpour at 4pm yesterday.

The occupants of the house in Hodges Street, Springfield,
called the fire service but the fire had already burnt itself out.

A hydraulic platform was brought in and firemen cleared the debris away.
Some of it had crashed through the roof leaving a large hole firemen said.
No-one was hurt.

Meanwhile, homes in Bickershaw could be without TV today after a bin fire early today at 1.30am.

Firefighters from Hindley were called out after someone ignited the contents of a bin and pushed it against Bickershaw Stores off Brown Lane.

It damaged the shop's fascia board and caused extensive damage to a Virgin Media junction box.
