Mother and baby trapped by blaze
Firemen saved a mother and her baby from a burning house in Wigan today.
They were understood to have been trapped in an upstairs bedroom of the mid-terraced house in Scholefield Lane, Scholes, as the fire raged below.
A fire service switchboard operator stayed on the phone giving the woman emergency advice until firemen arrived.
Two fire engines form Wigan and third fire engine from Hindley were at the scene within minutes of receiving her 999 call at 6.55am.
Both the woman and her child were were both given oxygen. Firefighters believe the source of the fire was a faulty tumble dryer.
