It will be "all aboard" for the over 50s in our borough next month when their SHIP comes in.
The annual Sheltered Housing and Information Partnership (SHIP) event takes place at Wigan Town Hall, Library Street on Tuesday June 3 from
10am to 3pm.

Now in its seventh year, this hugely popular event offers a chance for mature members of the community to find out more about what's on offer for them.

The borough's housing providers have teamed up with Wigan Council to stage the event that promotes a whole host of services specifically designed for older people.

There will be more than 30 stalls offering information and advice on everything from home security, benefits checks and help for those caring for someone over 50. SHIP covers some serious subjects but it's also about fun as well. And what better way to celebrate than with a trip through the time tunnel to the fab world of the swinging 60s?

Each SHIP event has a theme and this year's is no exception. There will be music, entertainment, dancing and competitions all with that groovy 60s vibe.

The event will also give older people the chance to visit some of the borough's sheltered accommodation throughout the day.

Wigan Council's Cabinet Champion for Older People Coun Keith Cunliffe said: "The event regularly attracts hundreds of people who not only make good use of the information and advice on offer but really appreciate the fun side of the event as well. It's free and you've got nothing to lose."
