A man is awaiting surgery after being hit over the head with a glass object outside a Wigan beer festival.
The 24-year-old victim was assaulted in Alder Street, Atherton, outside the annual Bent and Bongs Beer Bash, at about 9.40pm on January 30.
The assault occurred outside Formby Hall while hundreds of festival-goers – including music mogul Pete Waterman – taste-tested more than 80 different beers.
Detectives say the victim is now awaiting further surgery to treat the injury. It is not known whether or not the victim had been to the beer festival.
Detective Constable Katherine Andrews, of Wigan CID, said: "The festival attracts a huge crowd and I am certain there would have been people in and around the venue who saw what happened.
"I would urge those people to get in touch. Please don't rely on others to pass on information and tell me what you saw."
Anyone with information is asked to call Wigan CID on 0161 856 7259 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
