A Wigan nightclub worker has won a role in the latest instalment of the popular American Pie movie series.
Susan Somers, from Skyes Crescent in Winstanley, won an all expenses paid trip to Vancouver to star as an extra in American Pie: Book of Love – the seventh movie in the franchise.

Susan, assistant manager of Wigan Pier nightclub and a volunteer at Wigan and Leigh Hospice, still can't quite believe she'll be appearing in the film.

The 33-year-old said: "It was so exciting to be on a set and see the director and actors at work. It was nothing like I had imagined it to be. Everyone was so friendly and I had a terrific time."

In March Susan was sent an e-mail by HMV inviting her to enter the competition.
"I thought I would, to see what happened. I didn't expect anything to come of it to be honest," she said.

"Then I had a phone call from someone in Canada telling me I had been one of three competition winners.
"I thought it was prank call so I called HMV's head office and they told me it was true – I was ecstatic. In that same week I'd won £10 on the Lottery as well."

In Vancouver she stayed at The Sutton Place Hotel, popular with film stars working in the city. In the movie she will be seen at the front of a crowd at a basketball game between some of the film's stars.

Susan said: "We were told to cheer and give high fives when the home team scored. It was very surreal but lots of fun."

Susan, now eagerly awaiting the film's release, said: "I'll probably watch it with my partner, Paul. My children, Michael and Charlotte, want to watch it too, but the jokes in it are a bit rude so we'll have to watch it on mute with them!"

American Pie: Book of Love is expected to be released on DVD later this year.
