The bus stop with no bus stops

Passengers were "baffled" after this new stop was put up on a route without a bus service.
It is one of three new bus stops in Ladies Lane/Hall Lane, Hindley.
The decision to upgrade the new bus stops which, admittedly, don't actually make any claims to be served by any buses, has amazed and annoyed locals.

Many are still smarting from the loss of any scheduled bus service at all to the Hall Lane health centre more than three years ago.
Coun Jim Ellis believes that the bus stops have been erected as part of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive's "charm offensive" in support of the Transport Innovation Fund bid and its controversial Manchester congestion charge condition.

He wonders if the bus stops have been erected to try and persuade people that, if they vote yes for TIF in December's borough-wide referendum, they will actually get bus services to call at them.
Coun Ellis said: "I'm baffled by this. They have put new stops and notice boards up despite the fact that it must now be more than three years since there was actually a scheduled bus running up Hall Lane that was going to be able to stop at one.

"Call me a cynic, but I'm sure this is something to do with the congestion charge because it gives the impression that this is a bus route which may benefit from an investment in more frequent services.
"The truth is that the people of Hindley have no service there at all.

i'm afraid you will see more con tricks like this before the referendum, what they are trying to do is to con local residents into beilieving that if they vote yes then they will get a new bus service, when the re4ality is that they won't and the gmpte bosses will blame the private bus companies for not providing them, when they had no intention of asking for 'new' services to begin with.

It's typical of the muddle-headed transport policy of this New-Labour dominated Council. It persecutes motorists to get them to use Public Transport but doesn't have any idea of how to provide it.
Wigan and Leigh will get (in exchange for agreeing to the congestion charge tax) a SUPER-BUS that will crawl commuters into Manchester, from SELECTED locations around the Borough.

My daughter has been catching a Bus from Aspull to Hindley Daily up till may when she left school. It went past the medical centre and came down hall lane and ladies lane. It was the 609. She has caught this bus a various times. It is the only bus that went from hindley to aspull. Has this bus now stopped running and if it has it is only since June. Just because no numbers are on the stops the 609 does stop at them.

Cllr. Ellis will be moaning about the 620 being restored next as he wasn't consulted! Perhaps if he spoke with his fellow councillors instead of firing off pointless letters to the media he might get somewhere. Am I glad I don't live in his ward.
