David A Stanbury, of Classic Photography, in Gidlow Lane, beat off 1,000 competitors to scoop Reportage Wedding Photographer of the Year and Studio Portrait Photographer of the Year at the North West arm of the British Professional Photography Awards.
David, a photographer for the past 16 years, has worked from his Wigan studio with his wife Jane since 1998.

During that time, Classic Photography has built up a national reputation for specialist wedding and portrait photography, with studio manager Jane recently branching out to include pregnancy portraits.

David said: "I have won other awards but this is the highest honour I have been given to date in my professional career.
"And the fact that it was voted for by my peers, some really top photographers, makes it all the more special."

The ceremony, a black tie event, took place at the Park Royal Hotel, in Warrington, and was hosted by news reader Nigel Jay.

David said: "It was a fantastic event, I think, I don't remember too much after I had received the awards!"

The award-winning photographer says his working goal is to provide the perfect image in a fun and relaxed style.

He said: "I love to photograph anything that includes people and places and am living the dream, getting paid to do my hobby."

The future has never looked brighter for the creative couple and they are now looking forward to the national awards in October after gaining automatic entry thanks to their recent achievements.

David said: "The next thing is to get the national photographer of the year award, so fingers crossed!"
