Woman killed in car crash

A woman from Wigan has died following an horrific car crash - the incident happened at around 10.30pm last night when a silver Peugeot 206 and a red Toyota MR2 collided at the junction of Scott Lane and Woodhouse Drive.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene to find a man and woman trapped in the Toyota.
Both were freed from the car but the woman, who was driving, died on the way to Wigan Infirmary.
The woman is believed to be in her 30s and has not yet been formally identified but police say she was from the Wigan area.
The man suffered cuts and bruising, and a minor head injury.
He was today still receiving treatment at Wigan Infirmary but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
The driver and the passenger of the Peugeot, both of them women, suffered minor cuts in the crash.
Police are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to call the Area One Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 7202.
