The widespread publication of the location of speed cameras is studied by avid speeders and, I believe, undermines their effectiveness.
Dashboard location monitors, which warn drivers when they are approaching a speed camera, should be made illegal, for obvious safety reasons. Devices, which alert the drivers they are approaching a speed limit sign, are much better.
The anti-camera lobby seems to think that the millions of careful motorists drivers who constantly drive within the speed limits can only do so by keeping their eyes glued to their speedometers.
Those taking a driving test have to keep within the legal limits. They must also be fully aware of all the likely hazards in the vicinity. The same logic applies to the more onerous advanced driver's test.
We should take note of the experts but in doing so, we must beware of believing the few experts who agree with our opinion.
Better to trust the vast majority of experts who, on road safety grounds, support speed cameras.

Barton got away too cheaply
If people like footballer Joey Barton are given a second chance, it shouldn't be to go back to a luxury celebrity lifestyle, not when some victims of violence end up disabled and near-destitute, unable to earn £40 per week, let alone £40,000
The man has cost the taxpayer a small fortune – from police time to prison time and with his riches, this has got to be bang out of order.
When offenders have the money to pay for their 'mistakes' it should not cost the taxpayer a single penny.
Isn't the cost of living high enough? With the recent gas bill hikes, our elderly are at risk of freezing to death – and indeed living in fear of violence.

What a mistake to privatise energy
What British Gas does today, the other energy companies will do tomorrow.
The hiking of gas bills by 35% spells the end for this Government, even if they did impose a windfall tax on the energy companies. Still, I daresay Mrs Thatcher will be nice and warm this winter. Those of us who feared the results of her privatisation mania will just have to shiver.
What a sorry mess this country is in when it has to rely on gas from overseas, even with all its North Sea reserves.

Hail Freddie, our hero once more
I've just watched the best bit of Test Match cricket since we (temporarily) regained the Ashes.
Whoever doubted that Andrew Flintoff could regain the heights of those heady days after such a bad run of injuries, should have watched him bowl against Jacques Kallis in the just-finished Test against South Africa. One of the best batsman in the world was truly "done over" by our Freddie.
It was marvellous to watch and, even though he and his colleagues were not strong enough to level the current series, there is absolutely no doubt that Flintoff is a top-drawer international. We should be very proud.

Speed cameras are effective in cutting down on speed but more effective in producing revenue!!!!!!

If they were concerned on speeding why do you never see a police camera vehicle out after 9pm?

Because it's fare more cost effective and good for figures to catch people travelling at 33mph in a 30mph zone at 5:30pm when comming home from work as opposed to catching the real danger drivers doing 50mph plus and playing loud music at 9pm 10pm onwards!!!!!!

So is a speed camera only effective when dishing out fines?
