How refreshing it was for us to see young members of the Wigan Youth Big Band (right) thoroughly enjoying themselves while entertaining visitors to the shopping centre off Market Street, last Saturday.
Doubly enjoyable was the way young boys and girls were able to show off their own particular talent by playing their instruments solo. So well done Wigan Youth Big Band, Wigan should be very proud of you.

No attempt to pick up Tesco trolley
Three weeks ago I noticed a Tesco shopping trolley on the right hand side of Hardybutts, Scholes, near some waste land. I phoned Tesco in Wigan and informed them so they could collect the trolley.
Two weeks later it was still in Hardybutts so while in Tesco I called at the customer services desk and again
informed them of the trolley.
Today the trolley is still in Hardybutts it has moved a few yards but no effort appears to have been made by Tesco to collect it in spite of two requests.

Helping all nurses during tough times
I would like to tell your readers about the marvellous support I am receiving from NurseAid, a charity which exists to give help to Registered Nurses, Auxiliary Nurses and Student Nurses in times of financial hardship.
Just over a year ago I was admitted to my local hospital, Rochdale Infirmary, where I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Following an operation and chemotherapy, I had to give up work and exist on statutory sick pay.
However, in November last year I was made aware of NurseAid. After a simple application process I was given a regular weekly grant, which has greatly helped me with my day-to-day living expenses.
Nurses spend their lives caring for other people and when we get ill it's good to know that there is an organisation that can support us. I hope that my story will encourage people to make a donation to this great cause, which offers assistance to nurses throughout Lancashire.
If you would like to do so, please visit www.nurseaid.org.uk or phone 01386 446 023.

Testing patience
Lancashire seem to have upset some of the other cricketing counties with their support for a new Twenty20 competition at the major grounds, but one thing is for sure. If there are more test matches like the one at Lords between England and South Africa, spectators will die of boredom.
