Covid-19 cases in Wigan continue to fall

There were 194 new cases of Covid-19 identified in the borough between March 27 and April 2, giving a rate of 59 cases per 100,000 residents.
Of the 10 local authorities in Greater Manchester only Bury, Trafford and Stockport had lower rates.

Hide AdWigan s rate was lower than the one recorded in Chorley but above those in Warrington, West Lancashire and St Helens.
Among the over-60s Wigan has a case incidence of 23.3 per 100,000 people, the fourth-lowest in Greater Manchester.
Within the borough eight of the 25 council wards in Wigan and Leigh had an increase in cases for the latest week compared to the previous one.
Douglas had the highest rate of cases for the latest week, which covers March 26 to April 1, with Leigh South having the second highest rate.

Hide AdLowton East saw the largest increase from the previous week, followed by Wigan Central.
The total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic in Wigan is 28,823, a rate of 8,770 per 100,000 people. This is similar to the rate for Greater Manchester as a whole (8,684) and higher than the rate for the North West (8,191).
Wigan has the fourth-lowest rate of total cases in Greater Manchester.
As of April 6, there were 15 Covid-positive patients in the borough's hospitals.

Local tracing teams had, as of April 6, successfully managed 93 per cent of contacts in all the cases escalated to them.
