Boy, 13, becomes second teenager to be charged with murder of Wigan dad Steven McMyler

The schoolboy, who cannot be named for legal reasons but is from Whiston in Merseyside, has been charged with the murder of 34-year-old Steven James McMyler. He was due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court today, Friday August 14.
Jordan Short, 19, of Rushey Hey Road, Kirkby, was also charged with the same offence. He was remanded in custody and appeared via video link at Bolton Crown Court today. A trial date has been set for February 1st 2021.

Hide AdShortly before 7.50pm on Thursday 6 August, police were called by the ambulance service to reports of concern for a man outside the church on Bishopgate, Wigan.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Steven James McMyler sadly died at the scene and a murder investigation was launched.
Three men – aged 30, 19 and 18 – were arrested on suspicion of murder and released under investigation.
A 17-year-old boy from Merseyside has also since been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody for questioning.

Hide AdPaying tribute to him, Steven’s family said: “Steven was an extremely likeable lad, and everyone who came across him loved him as much as we all did. He was a popular lad, and he lit the room up as soon as he walked in.
“Everybody thought the world of him, as he had a heart of gold.
We can’t believe what has happened, and we are struggling to come to terms with this terrible tragedy. As a family, we would appreciate some privacy at this devastating time.”
