'Lucky to be alive': Police release image of assault victim's horrific injuries in appeal for information

Police were called at about 7.30am on Sunday (April 4) following a report a man had been found with serious injuries near Ferndale, Birch Green.
The male had been making his way to work before being targeted. Enquiries suggest the incident took place near to Firbeck.

Hide AdThe man, aged 37, was taken to Aintree Hospital where he remains. His condition is described as serious.
An investigation was launched and enquiries are continuing to identify the offenders.
Det Sgt Diane Higham, of Skelmersdale CID, said: “This was a horrific assault which has left a man in a very serious condition in hospital.
“The level of violence used is frankly obscene and the victim is lucky to be alive. We hope this image, which shows the severity of the injuries inflicted, will prompt members of the community to come forward.

Hide Ad“I would also appeal to anyone who may have information which could help us piece together what has happened and to help identify the offenders to contact us.”
Extra police patrols have been in the area over the weekend and will continue to be over the next few days. Members of the public are being encouraged to approach officers if they have any information or concerns.
