Hide AdFacebook community groups in the borough shared the call for signatures and there was also discussion of setting up a petition to show the local authority the strength of support for the business.
Martin's Whippy took down the original Facebook message which had asked for support but in the replacement post said the backing of the public would still be gratefully appreciated.
The post also thanked Wiganers who had gone public with their support for the consent to be renewed.
Wigan Council said the circumstances of the situation warranted putting the renewal before the licensing committee.
