Hide AdJones said: "I did this for a reason, to give out a genuine winner's medal and raise money for the club. It was a big decision, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
"I love this football club and there wasn't much more I could do.
"To raise £6,500 was incredible, thanks to everyone who donated, and Mark has given it back to me which is amazing - he said it'd mean more to me and my kids and grandkids in the future, so good on him."
Both gestures typified a staggering fund-raising effort by Wigan Athletic fans which saw them raise more than £600,000 by this lunchtime.
