A major £13m plan to transform an old 1800s cotton mill into 99 luxury apartments has taken another step forward.

Developer JP McGuire Developments is behind the project on Mather Lane, Leigh, which also includes large reception and communal areas, an on-site gym, secure parking and bicycle storage. On top of this, there is a private cinema and dining room, which occupiers can hire out for entertaining and socialising.

Now the firm has appointed Estate Management Solutions (EMS) to manage the new Loom Wharf development.

JP McGuire started regeneration work on the Grade II Listed cotton mill in 2018. The development is due for completion later this year and 80 per cent of the apartments have already sold. Once finished, EMS will oversee Loom Wharf’s management.

Jonathan Twentyman, MD of JP McGuire Developments, said: “It was important for us to find a property management company with a strong presence in the North West and a good track record of managing properties to the highest possible standards while putting tenants first.

“We’ve worked hard over the last two years to build quality, stylish and comfortable apartments for local people and we want to make sure they’re able to enjoy their homes for years to come. We’re confident that EMS will meet our high standards and help the Loom Wharf occupiers get the most out of their home.”

EMS director Rowland Garnett said: “It’s a great time for Leigh with a lot of investment and new developments going on. Loom Wharf is an integral part of the regeneration of this town and the development will provide premium homes for people.

“It’s a privilege to be appointed to oversee the day-to-day management and maintenance of this beautiful building. We’re looking forward to welcoming all the new occupiers later in the year and helping them settle into their new homes.”

As Baroness Barran said in a House of Lords debate this week on the importance of journalists: "Not only are they a trusted source of facts, but they will have a role to play in rallying communities and getting the message across about how we can keep ourselves and our families safe, and protect our NHS. Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."

But being your eyes and ears comes at a price. So we need your support more than ever to buy our newspapers during this crisis. In return we will continue to forensically cover the local news - not only the impact of the virus but all the positive and uplifting news happening in these dark days.
