Wigan's food hygiene rating of 2021 so far

Inspectors from the Food Standards Agency have visited 83 food-serving businesses so far in 2021, with the majority of inspections taking place at home-based cake makers.

The highest mark of Five, noting a “Very good” standard of hygiene, was awarded to 39 businesses.

A baker’s dozen scored the second highest grade of Four, while 15 eateries earned a “Satisfactory” rating of Three.

Just five companies were rated Two, but a worrying 17 were told major improvement was necessary after being given a score of One. No venues have scored Zero in 2021 so far.

Businesses that serve food are rated on how hygienically it is handled; how it is prepared, cooked, reheated, cooled and stored; the condition of the structure of the buildings; the cleanliness, lay-out, lighting, ventilation and other facilities, as well as how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.
