A landlord has given his pub a fresh touch of personality by incorporating his three dogs into his new signage.

The sign outside the Hare and Hounds in Hindley was in need of a fresh lick of paint after years of weather damage.

So landlord David O’Hara had the idea of swapping out the traditional signage in favour of a fresh, cartoon-style design featuring his three Jack Russells, the titular Hare, and the Hindley coat of arms.

David has been landlord of the Ladies Lane watering hole for three-and-a-half years. Under his reign it has grown as a real ale pub, offering at least five different real ales at any given time.

He said the new signs were a great idea because his three dogs, called Albie, Rosie and Barney, were so well known among his regulars.

The 62-year-old said: “The old sign we had up at the pub was getting a bit old and dated.

“I’ve got three Jack Russells and they’re kind of part of the pub. So with it being called the Hare and Hounds, I thought I’d get the new sign done.

“I have a mate in Southport who is a sign writer, who used to do all my paintings when I lived on a canal boat.

“We had a chat and he came up with this cracking pub sign with my three dogs on. They’re like cartoon characters. It looks really good!”

The new sign hasn’t yet been put in place, but it is sure to catch the eye among pub goers onc e it is officially unveiled.
