Homebuilder Northstone is inviting people to give their feedback on its plans for the location off Smithy Brook Road.

Wigan Council previously unanimously approved an outline planning application for residential development at the former colliery site and Northstone, part of Peel L&P, is now preparing to submit a reserved matters application to address the design, layout and scale of the development.

Northstone wants to build a mixture of house types and sizes and also plans to include green features such as increased insulation and smart energy-saving technology.

The proposal also includes a village green in the centre of the development and a road connecting Billinge Road to the Smithy Brook roundabout which will form part of the M58 link route.

Bernadette Barry, development manager at Northstone, said: “We are committed to engaging with local people regarding our proposals for the former Pemberton Colliery site.

"Our aim is to create a sense of community amongst new residents while ensuring our homes are integrated with the existing local community.

“We look forward to hearing the views of local residents, which will help to shape our final plans before they are submitted to Wigan Council.”

Northstone says it wants to encourage walking and cycling with footpaths and routes for two-wheeled traffic around the new development.

The homebuilder also hopes to boost the local economy both with jobs during the construction phase and through residents' spending in the area after they move into the new homes.

The consultation runs until October 14. Residents wanting to comment can ring 0333 358 0502 between 9am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday, email [email protected] or visit www.newhomesforpemberton.co.uk
