Celebrate healthcare workers in Wigan on International Nurses' Day

The occasion falls on Tuesday, May 12 - the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s death - and is a chance to celebrate the medical staff working hard every day, always putting their patients first, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.

Nurses and midwives use their skill, knowledge and professionalism to make a huge impact on the health and well-being of people, families and communities.

Health bosses are urging people across the borough to join the celebrations by sharing their story or thanking a nurse or team that has cared for them or their family.

You could get involved by:

Sending a short video (up to 30 seconds) telling your story or saying thank you

Submitting a picture holding up a thank you message

Taking a picture of a poster

Dr Tim Dalton, a GP and chairman of NHS Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Ahead of International Nurses Day, I want to thank all of our nurses across the borough for their significant contribution in providing safe, effective, compassionate care for patients and families.

“It fills me with pride when I see the fantastic work and continued professionalism of my nursing colleagues, particularly during this response to coronavirus.

“Getting involved in our campaign is the perfect opportunity to show your appreciation for a nurse or team that has helped you or your family.”

Videos and pictures can be sent to [email protected] or via NHS Wigan Borough CCG’s Twitter or Facebook pages @WiganBoroughCCG by Sunday, May 10.

All the videos and pictures will be put together in a special thank you montage to celebrate nurses and midwives.
