Jabs have been offered at Robin Park Leisure Centre and Leigh Leisure Centre since mid-December, when the first people received the Pfizer vaccine.

Now, extra vaccination centres are being opened and Wigan Council and NHS Wigan Borough CCG are mobilising more support staff to work there.

The council has revealed that 4,000 vaccines have already been given to people in priority groups, 3,000 to health and social care staff and 400 to care home workers.

Vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, have been made a priority for receiving the injection.

People have been told they will be contacted by the NHS when it is their turn to be vaccinated.

Nearly 1.5 million people in the UK have now been vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech and Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccines, with the Government aiming to jab 15 million of those most at risk by mid-February.
