Wigan has second highest rate of new Covid-19 cases in Greater Manchester, latest figures show

The borough's rate of new cases was 634.7 per 100,000 residents in the seven days between October 17 and October 23.

In the seven days October 17-23, Wigan had 2086 new cases identified, at a rate of 634.7 per 100,000 population and the second highest rate of new cases in Greater Manchester.

This rate is higher than seen regionally (North West rate is 447.3 per 100,000) and nationally (England’s rate is 221.6 per 100,000).

20 of the 25 wards across the borough saw an increase in cases on the previous week. Pemberton had the highest number of cases for the latest week (124), and Standish with Langtree had the highest rate per 100,000 population (905).

The total number of confirmed cases is now 9476, a rate of 2883 per 100,000 population. This is lower than for Greater Manchester as a whole (3029) and higher than the rate for the North West (2658). Wigan has the fourth lowest rate of total cases in Greater Manchester.
