Wigan town centre restaurant closes after customer tests positive for Covid-19

A Chinese restaurant in Wigan town centre has closed for a deep clean after a recent customer tested positive for Covid-19.

The Chinese Buffet in Standishgate was notified by the NHS Track and Trace system that a customer, who visited on Wednesday August 5, was diagnosed with the virus.

The venue will be closed until further notice while deep cleaning is carried out, in addition to testing of all staff.

The restaurant said it would offer a £10 voucher as an apology for the disruption caused to anyone who had made a booking, as well as refund all deposits that had been paid.

In a statement on social media, the company said: "We regret to inform you that due to one of our recent customers having tested positive for Covid and so our Wigan restaurant will be temporarily closed for deep cleaning and testing of our staff.

"This customer visited on Wednesday 5th August in the afternoon and NHS track and trace are contacting all those customers who are affected to advise them of the course of action they need to take.

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and especially to those who arrived at the restaurant with booking only to find us closed and then struggling to get information.

"As a gesture of our apology we would like to offer a £10 voucher ( and of course deposits will be refunded ) to any booking with us for the period we are closed.

"As you can imagine we have many measures in place to ensure the safety of our staff and customers and have been working hard to open all restaurants with these measures in place and the new way of dining so we are totally devastated this has happened at this point and will do everything we can to follow procedure and be safely open as soon as possible.

"Thank you to our loyal customers for your understanding and we hope to be back open very soon.

"At the moment I don’t have an exact date for reopening but will share this as soon as possible with you all.

"Please note - this does not affect our Liverpool branch in anyway as this sort of thing is very localised."
