Staff and supporters gathered at the Plantation Gates, opposite Wigan Infirmary, on Saturday for an organised demonstration.

They carried placards calling for "NHS pay justice" and played steel drums to catch the attention of health bosses and passers-by.

They then marched along Wigan Lane to the town centre, with many people wearing masks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Dozens of people took part, including members of Wigan Trades Council, to demand that NHS workers are given a pay rise.

They are upset that they have not been included in a pay increase recently awarded to public sector workers by the Government, having previously agreed a three-year deal in 2018.

It was the second event held in Wigan, alongside other demonstrations taking place around the country.

One campaigner told Wigan Today: "This is the second protest, there will be more events planned and we are not going to stop until the Government starts listening."
