Student Marilyn Evans enters the gentlemen only bar in the Market Hotel, Mesnes Street, Wigan, on Monday 29th of December 1975, the first day of the new equality act for women. For 50 years men only had crossed the threshold of the exclusively male only bar in the Wigan pub but the Sex Discrimination Act changed all that.
