THE Wigan Observer is 160 years old and to celebrate, we’ve produced a fantastic 24-page supplement featuring news through the decades.
The Wigan Observer first appeared on January 8, 1853, and since then has appeared without fail in some shape or form every week.
Through the decades, taking in two world wars and the reign of five monarchs, the Wigan Observer has brought you the best news, sport, pictures, comment and features. If it happens in Wigan – it’s in the Observer. For many readers the week wouldn’t be complete without their weekly read.
We did plan to bring out this superb 24-page supplement in Spring, but as I’m sure you have all noticed Wigan has been a busy place.
Even with its fantastic history, 2013 has been one of the best ever for our town – FA Cup winners, Challenge Cup holders, the opening of the Youth Zone, the completion of the £10m Mesnes Park restoration, the opening of the multi-million pound relief road and our first-ever 10k.
