SIR Ian McKellen has strengthened his case as a One Directioner.
The actor, who grew up in Wigan, wore a T-shirt of the band whilst he sat alongside them on Graham Norton’s chat show last week.
And while the band expressed their mutual admiration for the actor, it was Harry Styles who was clearly his biggest fan as he spoke about his love for the Lord of the Rings films, and the pair enjoyed a cuddle.
“You’re amazing,” Harry gushed. “So are you,” replied the actor.
Sir Ian added that he enjoyed seeing the band in concert in New Zealand, as he was filming the final instalment of The Hobbit. But he admitted he was disappointed they did not pay him a visit on Peter Jackson’s film set afterwards.
McKellen appeared on Graham Norton as part of his busy press tour for the final instalment of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Talking about the battle scenes in the latest instalment of the franchise, he adds: “They are amazing but don’t ask me any more about how it is done as I don’t really understand it. The best thing about having now seen the movie is understanding the plot – I had no idea what I was doing during filming.”
Meanwhile, Good wizard Gandalf makes an amusing cameo amongst the Master Builders of The Lego Movie, voiced by Robot Chicken animator Todd Hansen. But Sir Ian was slightly bewildered, saying: “The Lego Movie? I’ve never heard of it, Somebody doing my voice? Good luck to him. There are many people who do Gandalf voices around the world (in dubbed movies).”
