THIS year’s Wigan International Jazz Festival has seen a series of storming musical performances.
No more so than when audiences got two top big bands for the price of one.
Hundreds of people turned out at Robin Park Indoor Sports Centre to watch Doncaster Jazz Orchestra, directed by John Ellis MBE, and Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra, directed by David Little and with guest soloist Al Wood.
The festival presented a vast array of entertainment. Irish artist David Lyttle and Interlude shared the stage with Jason Robello, Sting’s pianist.
Nearly Dan also performed a variety of Steely Dan hits in homage to Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. International artists such as the Igor Butman Big Band and the Dutch Swing College Band made a big impact and the festival ended with the Skelton Skinner All Star Band and Give a Little Love Jazz Orchestra.
Budding musicians could also take advantage of improvisation and vocal workshops with Linley Hamilton and His Trio, WYJO members and Dana Masters.
