She began working on Coronation Street as Eva Price five years ago, taking a break to have her first son, Alfie, last year.

A source told the Sun on Sunday: “She’s a real star and has a great future on the cobbles.”

She revealed that she would like to pursue other projects but couldn’t see herself leaving the street anytime soon, adding: ”I adore Corrie... but there are lots of other things I want to do, and I want to be versatile, so it would be nice to go off and do other bits and pieces. But I would hope that no matter what happens, Corrie will always be somewhere I can come home to.

“I’d love to see Eva at 80-odd, still behind the Rovers bar, setting the world to rights.”

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old and her fiance, Standish-born personal trainer Tom Pitfield, recently celebrated their son, Alfie’s first birthday.

She told Hello magazine; “Now that he’s nearly one, he is such a great little personality.

“Especially now that he is trying to talk. I’m sure every parent says this but he is so bright. And the fact that he is walking and saying a few words is amazing for his age.”

This spring Catherine and Tom will get married and they have given Alfie a special job as a page boy at their wedding. Tom’s niece Penny, who is three weeks older, will join him as a flower girl.

Catherine added: “I’m quite relieved that Alfie is on his feet.

“Penny is pretty much there as well. So hopefully they will both walk down the aisle together.”

Ahead of Aflie’s first birthday, Catherine took him to a petting zoo in Lancashire, where the little boy had the chance to see animals he has only ever heard about from his story books.

Continuing with the animal theme, Catherine and Tom are planning a Lion King birthday party for their son.

She said: “We are going to have lots of little Lion King characters in a soft play area.

“Plus cupcakes and face paints. Oh, and a bouncy castle! I think I’m more excited about that than anyone.”
