KAY Burley proved she is not easily in a flap when she used Taylor Swift lyrics when interviewing Bill Oddie.
The former Beech Hill resident interviewed the conservationist for Sky News, after the American singer’s production team was accused of endangering rare birds while shooting a music video in New Zealand by bringing vehicles onto a beach where dotterel birds nest.
To mock Bill, she scattered references to some of Taylor’s most famous songs throughout the interview. Her questions included whether the birds will be about to Shake It Off after Taylor’s arrival. She also said: “Seems to be some Bad Blood; “Very rare bird not even 22” and “So has Everything Changed now.”
And Kay didn’t stop there as she thought of some more lyrics and trolled him on Twitter, posting; “We’ll never get back together now. Never, ever.”
Taylor Swift’s production company said: “Cherokee Films has a long history of responsible film shoots across Auckland, including Bethells Beach. In acknowledgement of the concern to those in charge of protecting local Dotterel population, Cherokee Films will make a donation to the breeding program.”
Meanwhile, Baroness Joan Bakewell has hailed Kay as a good role model. She said: “Sky’s Kay Burley is very good. There are women to look to and all the women you see have got there by being capable, good at their job, turning up on time, doing good interviews – they’re all terrifically hard-working.”
