A GLAMOROUS Wigan beauty queen has begun a crusade to raise hundreds for a children’s charity.
Lauren Lindley of Shevington, who is set to star in the Miss Wigan final in September, is hoping to raise more than £200 for the Variety charity through various events.
The 20-year-old student, who is currently in her second year at the University of Manchester studying management and leisure, entered the competition with the initial aim of boosting her confidence.
But, she admitted, it has given her so much more.
Lauren said: “I got into Miss Wigan 2015 to firstly boost my confidence and meet like-minded ambitious young women from Wigan.
“However it’s become such a joy working alongside them raising money for the Variety charity which is for disadvantaged children and we are focusing on the North West area, it gets addictive seeing your money rise for such a good cause.
“It feels amazing and slightly unbelievable to be in the final, so much work has gone into it, and to think all I’ve gained from this competition makes me more excited to compete alongside girls I can now call my friends.”
In her fund-raising quest, Lauren took part in the Sefton 5K Big Fun Run which she completed in 30 minutes.
And she also has plans to hold a charity fun day alongside the other Miss Wigan girls on August 31 at Shevington Parish Hall.
Lauren added: “I also did dog boarding in my spare time for the community which I put towards my fund-raising target also.
“In the future I hope to continue to represent Wigan regardless of whether I win, I hope to graduate from university and pursue a career in events management and continue to act as a positive role model in the community and maybe compete in more pageants.”
Miss Wigan final will take place at the Britannia Hotel, Standish, on September 5.
