WIGAN’S Ben Guymer has made it through to the semi-finals of Mr England.
Ben, 26, the current Mr Lancashire, was spotted by officials whilst accompanying his fiancée, Nina Higham, 25, to the regional rounds of the Miss England pageant.
I think I am going to have to get some professional photos taken. Most of the contestants seem to have them, but because I didn’t think this would ever happen, they just had to use my Facebook pictureBen Guymer
Ben said: “I just wasn’t expecting it at all. I’m just a normal guy, I hadn’t ever considered doing the pageant myself.”
“I’m equally as excited and nervous about what is to come now. I have a lot of competition coming up, and it would be incredible to get through. It’s been a really fun ride.”
But, the NHS employee is not just a pretty face. He also juggles a full-time job, an MSc degree in real estate and property management, a chartership to become a fully qualified surveyor, whilst still managing to hit the gym four times a week.
Now Ben will come up against rivals from all over the country in a photo judging round. The eleven elite finalists will be judged by current Miss England, Carina Tyrell, and pageant organisers.
Ben said: “I think I am going to have to get some professional photos taken. Most of the contestants seem to have them, but because I didn’t think this would ever happen, they just had to use my Facebook picture.”
There will be a public vote at the end of May, once all of the entrants’ photographs have been published.
The Mr England final will take place in Torquay, Devon, in June.
