IT’S set to be a huge year for the Billy Boston Statue appeal in 2015.
More than £13,000 has already been raised to fund the monument, which will stand in Wigan town centre.
Now a registered charity, the biggest event for the statue appeal is to be held in two months’ time - a star-studded dinner at the DW Stadium on Saturday, March 21, with tickets costing £35.
Warriors’ head coach Shaun Wane and Wigan legend Bill Ashurst have agreed to speak at the star-studded event and the evening will be MC’d by BBC commentator Dave Woods with music by 60’s band t’Others.
And the highlight of the evening will be never-before-seen footage of Billy in action and, of course, there will be a chance to meet the legend himself.
Tickets cost £35 with all proceeds going to the statue appeal while there will be a raffle and auction on the night, both with scores of priceless items up for grabs.
Among the prizes will be tickets with hospitality for the Grand Final and a private exclusive tour around the Coronation Street set.
Billy – who celebrated his 80th birthday last year – was born and raised in South Wales but has lived in Wigan ever since he moved here as a teenager.
He now has a big family with wife Joan including his children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Last year a number of other fund-raisers helped get the ball rolling including special Billy Boston pin badges which are still available at the Warriors Lotto shop or by calling the Wigan Observer on 01942 506283. They’re priced at £2 each.
Donations to the charity can be made direct to the bank, via the account “The Billy Boston Statue Trust”, number 33910660, sort code 20-96-37. Cheques can be made payable to The Billy Boston Statue Trust.
Anyone interested in purchasing tickets or sponsoring the event, should call Barbara Thompson on 07798 900913 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
But hurry, tickets are selling fast for what is sure to be one of the sporting highlights of 2015.
