Comic opera comes to Haigh

IS EVERY woman the same? This may be the kind of question posed on a daytime TV show, but it’s the subject of Heritage Opera’s brand-new production of Mozart’s comic masterpiece, Cosi fan Tutte, is all set to entrance at Haigh Hall on Friday (April 15), starting at 7.30pm.

Set in the 18th century, with sumptuous period costumes, the opera is sung by professional singers in a new English translation and comes to Wigan at the start of a tour of historic venues during April.

Expect romantic shenanigans in the bushes, as two soldiers make just such a wager to test out their girlfriends’ loyalty.

Heritage Opera has given more than 100 performances of 18 operas in stately homes, castles, and medieval churches.

Musical director Chris Gill said: “Our aim is to give audiences a professional-quality musical and dramatic performance, but in a much more intimate environment than most theatres can offer. The company is committed to producing period performances.”
