A COUPLE made matrimonial history on Saturday by being the first to tie the knot at the Mesnes Park bandstand.
Fifty guests assembled at the newly restored park attraction to see Yvonne Fabin and Jon Gradwell get married on a morning with blue skies and a spring nip in the air.

The happy couple were more than delighted to be declared husband and wife with the beautiful park as a backdrop.
The couple were also thrilled to be the first couple to use the newly-approved wedding location which is once again ringing to the sound of music.
Yvonne, 29, and Jon, 33, of Hodges Street, Wigan, who have a three-year-old son Elliot, agreed: “It all felt very special and we were so grateful that the sun stayed out.”
Yvonne, an administrator, said: “We met at work 10 years ago and have been planning the wedding for a year.
“At first we planned to marry at the renovated Park Lodge, but then three months ago we were told that the bandstand had been approved for weddings.
“We decided it would be ideal. And what a fantastically beautiful setting. We finally got the go-ahead three days before the wedding.”
Jon added: “Of course, there had to be a contingency plan in case the weather was bad. Had that happened, we’d have tied the knot in the Lodge.
“We kept looking at the weather forecasts and although it was a little bit nippy on Saturday morning, the sun was shining. We had no doubt about going ahead in the bandstand.”
The bride’s stepfather, Ernie Clark said: “There can’t be many local couples who actually make history on their wedding day.
“There was a lovely sense of quiet as the service was taking place and it was great that some people in the park approached the bandstand to watch.
“Everything went like a dream.”
After the service, the couple’s wedding reception was at The Owls in Standish.
