SHOPPING centre bosses are launching an appeal to bring some Easter joy to sick children.

The Galleries Shopping Centre in Wigan town centre is launching an Easter Egg Appeal on March 20 and is encouraging shoppers to donate Easter eggs for children in the Rainbow Ward of Wigan Infirmary.

Shoppers are asked to drop off Easter eggs at the Easter display on Ashton Gallery (opposite The Works) from Tuesday, March 20 until Easter.

The centre will make sure they are all taken to the Rainbow Ward in time for Easter so that all children who are in hospital over the Easter holiday will get an egg.

The Rainbow Ward in Wigan Hospital is a general paediatric ward and has a mixture of beds and cubicles.

It is the children’s emergency and long stay admission ward and is built around the playroom. The ward has children attending for a variety of medical procedures and reviews.

Richard Paxton, centre director of The Galleries, said: “We are delighted to be able to spread a little Easter cheer and contribute to such a worthwhile cause with The Galleries Easter Egg Appeal.

“Every Easter egg donated will really bring a smile to a child in hospital and ensure they have an Eggstra special Easter. We know the people of Wigan will join in with this, so we want to thank you for your generosity in advance.”

The Galleries has launched the appeal by donating 50 Easter eggs.

Larger Easter Egg donations can be collected by arrangement. Please contact Karen Cox, Centre Business Manager on 01942 825734.
