IT’S Wigan town centre’s Christmas lights switch-on tomorrow evening and the full line-up has been revealed.
A host of local and national stars will join headline act Toploader on the giant stage in Market Place with the fun beginning at 4.30pm.
There will be musical performances from Kevin Simm, Zoe Unsworth, Bailey McConnell, Harry Mondryk, REDD, Exposure, Tiger Heart, Britain’s Got Talent finalist 2012 Mr Zip, X Factor 2011 finalists Janet Devlin along with a special appearance from Wigan Warrior and Athletic players and cheerleaders.
The Battle of the Buskers winner The Secrets will also perform live on stage.
Hacker T Dog from BBC children’s show Hacker Time will also make a guest appearance in his home town and will lend a hand to switch on the towns festive lights.
Joseph’s Goal, the charity set up by Wigan Evening Post football reporter Paul Kendrick and his wife Emma to find treatments and eventually a cure for the NKH (Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia) that affects their son Joseph will also be joining the lights switch on.
The five-year-old recently started at Hope School in Wigan which is really aiding his development and he will be there to help switch on the Christmas Lights.
Emma said: “It’s an amazing honour for Joe to be asked. He gets a lot out of sensory stimulation and seeing the lights going up will be great for his development.”
John Sanson, Centre Manager of the Grand Arcade, said: “The 2014 Wigan Christmas lights switch-on provides free festive entertainment in the town centre.
“We are delighted that Toploader is our headliner and Hacker T Dog is joining us once again and we look forward to him entertaining us all!
“We are sure that the entertainment we have planned will be enjoyed by families, young and old because we’ve provided something for everyone!”
Victoria Nichol, centre manger of The Galleries, said: “We are delighted to invite Joseph’s Goal and Joseph Kendrick onto the stage to help switch the lights on, the charity is doing a fantastic job and we are happy to show our support.
“It is going to be a fantastic event.”
The town’s second Christmas event, Santa’s Christmas parade will take place on Sunday, leaving Mesnes Park at 1pm arriving at Market Place at 1.30pm.
The parade includes real huskies, marching bands, costume characters, vehicles and much, much more.
Following the parade, Santa and his reindeers remain in Market Place along with the performers until 4pm.
Mascots, local organisations and groups are all invited to join the parade.
