Foo Fighters love a bit of Rick Astley

IT appears rock band the Foo Fighters are closet fans of Rick Astley.

The band Rickrolled unsuspecting homophobic protesters from the infamous Westboro Baptist Church, last weekend.

As they were due to perform in the town, members of the church had set up a protest, picketing the gig.

The Foo Fighters, whose hits include Everlong, Learn to Fly and Pretender, had arrived early and drove in on the back of a pick up truck to Westboro picketers in Kansas, blasting the Newton-le-Willow singer’s anthem Never Gonna Give You Up while holding signs reading “Keep it Clean” and “You Got Rick Roll’d Again.”

As they took to the stage that night, singer Dave Grohl told the crowd he only became aware of the picket when someone informed the band as they were sitting back stage.

Dave said: “You can’t just sit there and do nothing. You have to go out there and say what you want to say. So we did.

“I said, ‘Cool, let’s go out and hang out with them for a bit. We didn’t have enough time to put together the big old show that we put on last time, so we figured, you know what, why don’t we just RickRoll them? “‘Cause nothing says love like a little Rick Astley in your life, you know what I’m saying?

“So I’m going to dedicate this song (My Hero) to all the people who go out and speak their mind, to stand up for what they think is right, because every time we got to stand up in this city in front of them, we do it because we feel like we’re standing up for what we think is right.”
