WIGAN will be hitting the high notes this week as the town’s international jazz festival celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Musicians from around the world will be converging on Robin Park Indoor Sports Centre to take to the stage as part of the event.
Festival director Ian Darrington said: “This is an extra special jazz festival as we enter our 30th year of bringing this wonderful music not only to the people of Wigan borough but to those many visitors who come from across the country and even other parts of the world to be involved.
“It’s not too late to buy tickets so pick yours up now to enjoy the show!”
Highlights include Leigh’s own bandleader and singer Andy Prior paying tribute to Glenn Miller and Frank Sinatra, South African Dan Shout’s In With A Shout, and the fabulous Echoes of Ellington which features big band arrangements including Jubilee Stomp and Prelude to a Kiss.
There will also be performances from Wigan Jazz Club Reunion Big Band and the ever-popular Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra.
In addition to the concerts at Robin Park, there will be free performances taking place in the town centre and at Mesnes Park.
The festival is also being held in partnership with Jazz North.
