KERRY Katona has defended her lifestyle, which includes renting a lavish mansion in Wigan.

The 32-year-old, who declared herself bankrupt for the second time last month, currently rents a mansion near Haigh for £3,000 a month but will be moving back south to somewhere smaller.

She told Heat magazine: “It’s not my house and I don’t own the furniture.

“I got a great deal on it, but we are going to move down south (to a smaller house).

“But I need somewhere secluded. I don’t want the paparazzi on my doorstep every five minutes.”

She also spoke about how she got herself into the financial mess in the first place, saying: “I was in my bankruptcy for about four years, then I got offered Celebrity Big Brother, which was a lot of money and I thought ‘I’ll pay it off.’

“But then I’m told that £20,000 of that had to go to the people who were supposed to have been sorting my money out.

“Then I’m getting legal bills, the lawyers, barristers. Their letters make no sense to me. And suddenly I’d paid nearly half a million pounds on an £82,000 tax bill.

“I was determined to do whatever it took for it not to happen - hence some of the TV work I have done.

“I’ve got no assets. I don’t own anything.

“The only car I have is 14 years old, which is for the nanny who I only have part time if I’m working.

“All my money has gone on legal bills, divorce lawyers, custody battles...”

She added that as a result she cannot get a mortgage or any finance and may have to take her eldest daughter, Molly, 11, out of private school.

The Atomic Kitten singer is now looking forward to her impending nuptials to fiance George Kay, but is planning a smaller wedding, and has even considered a pagan hand fasting ritual.

But Kerry is still busy working, playing Marilyn Monroe in Norma Jeane The Musical, from September 21, and she has filmed a documentary called My Depression Diaries, which airs on Channel 5 early next month.

She said: “I have bipolar. It was really hard to do. I had to look back at my childhood when I saw things I should never have witnessed. I thought I was a strong girl but I realised a lot about myself during filming.”

She referred to seeing her mum get stabbed by her then boyfriend and how it affected their relationship.
