KING Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table will duel and joust their way to Haigh Hall next month.
A family medieval day has been organised in the walled gardens for Saturday, May 21 where visitors can enjoy duelling knights, birds of prey displays and jester juggling schools.
It follows last year’s hugely popular event which saw hundreds of people flock to the beauty spot.
A spokesman for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said: “This was a phenomenal success last year and something people were asking us to organise again.
“Haigh Hall and the surrounding countryside are steeped in history and a perfect location and backdrop for this kind of event.
“We expect it to, once again, be one of the most popular events of the year.”
But if all that medieval machismo is too much a gentler evening has also been planned a week later.
King Arthur will host a Medieval Banquet in Haigh Hall on Saturday, May 28.
A cast of colourful characters from England’s past will entertain guests with fire eating, juggling and live medieval music as visitors enjoy a four-course medieval feast.
The Medieval Day takes place between noon and 4pm. Adult tickets cost £3.50, children’s tickets cost £2.50. Family tickets (two adults, two children) are only £10. To book call 01942 832895.
Tickets for Haigh Hall’s Medieval Banquet a week later cost £30 and include a four-course feast, entertainment and glass of mead on arrival.
Medieval costumes are optional. The evening starts at 7.30pm. Call 01942 832895 for more details or to book tickets for either event.
The events are just two in a fun-packed spring and summer for Haigh Hall which later in the year hosts concerts by Peter Andre and The Courteeners.
