MORE than 36,000 borough carers are set to receive extra support during Carers Week.

Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre in Hindley is preparing a host of events throughout the event which will run from June 10 to 16.

But bosses at the charity are calling for businesses so that extra support can be given.

Centre trustee Bill Stubbs said: “To support us with this we are asking health or care providers, including gyms, chiropodists, beauty centres and other interested companies, for donations to sponsor a specific information stall at our Carers Awareness Day on Thursday June 13. We are also hoping to raise sufficient sponsorship to enable us to give Goody Bags to carers for them to include facts leaflets, and other useful tools and information to support them in their caring role.”

Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre is a registered charity which offers support to people in the borough who are carers for their parents, partners, other family members, children with disabilities or friends.

Bill believes that is it important to give back to the people who give so much to others. He said: “Carers in Wigan area provide round the clock care to their loved ones and although this is a vital service, of great value to our community, many carers can often find this role difficult, stressful and with nowhere to turn until they become aware of our services. For that reason, we are holding a Health Awareness Day to local carers during National Carers Week to help offer them some respite and provide information on how to look after themselves and those they care for.”

National Carers Week 2013, with the theme Prepared to Care, is being delivered by a partnership of national charities including; Age UK, Carers Trust, Carers UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, MS Society and Parkinson’s UK.
