WIGAN cycling hero Bradley Wiggins met one of his musical heroes at the Q Awards.
Sir Wiggins, whose wife is from Shevington, presented the Gibson Les Paul award to The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr at the big musical event last week.
Johnny said: “This is an amazing thing.
“When I was a little boy I always thought that guitar bands were the best things in the world and I thought the best thing to be in a band is a guitar player. I still think that, so I’d like to accept this award on behalf of all British guitar players. It’s amazing to spend every day doing something you love, and so to get an award for it is fab.”
This is another musical coupe for Sir Wiggins, who got on stage with Paul Weller last autumn, and he stated the experience was far better than winning the Olympics.
The self-confessed Mod has a large collection of guitars at home and taught himself how to play.
He said: “I’m self-taught on the guitar but my wife says I’m quite good. But there’s good, and then there’s good. It’s like cycling, the real thing is getting out and playing live.
“Everyone’s a rock star in their own bedroom.”
